I had a mini makeover with Dior team at Yorkdale, and the trend I really wanted to rock was metallic lips! The Dior team at Hudson’s Bay in Yorkdale is brilliant – I had an amazing experience with the lovely ladies at the Dior makeup counter, and got some great tips to get a glowing complexion with Dior products, and also learnt how to wear a beautiful and dark metallic lip!
Read on to find out how you can make a statement dark lip work for you!
Prep – Exfoliate and Hydrate
Preparing your lips before wearing a statement lips is key – because the lips will be the focal point of your look, and it’s imperative that the lips look and feel great!
I tried the Dior Lip Sugar Scrub for the first time, and this is just the perfect prep product! This is a lip-balm which is infused with micro sugar crystals. Upon application, these mini sugar crystals exfoliate your lips and melt upon application, while the lip formula moisturizes and softens them. The result is smooth, plump, hydrated lips! The lip balm works to enhance the natural colour of your lips – so it gives the lips a lovely pink flush within a couple of minutes! I found this to be quite innovative and unique!
Correct and Enhance
The next step is making the lips the focus of the look. Use a hydrating concealer around the lips to truly mark the lips out.
The make up artist achieved this step by mapping out the lips with Dior’s Fix It 2-In-1 Prime and Conceal. This maps out the lips, perfects the skin tone around the lips, and conceals any blemishes, charting out the lips as the focus.
The lipcolour I opted to go for is Dior’s Poison Metal from the Rouge Dior Liquid line. It is a deep wine to brown kind of a shade with a stunning metallic finish. The makeup artist used a dark lip-liner to etch out the lips to define them further, She also filled most of the lips in with the lip-liner.
Make the Shade Work for You
Now it’s time for the real fun – the makeup artist added the statement glamourous Poison Metal shade from Dior’s Rouge Liquid Collection to the outer edges of the lips, and the corner of the lips, leaving out just the very centre of the lips.
To make the shade work for you, shade the centre of the lips with the tone of colour to enhance the colour of your skin. For me, the Dior makeup artist chose Diorific Khol Powder Lipstick – a warm pink, to bring some warmth back to my skin, in order for my skin to not look washed out! For warm, Indian type of skin tones – this is the best tip to make a lip colour work for you – Use a warmer lip colour to make a dark shade more wearable!
Similarly for any other skin tone, mix and match with a colour you know would suit you, to get that dimension in your lip! It makes all the difference in the world, and this is how you can truly make any colour your own!
Now for adding the finishing touch to the whole look, we added a pop of highlight to the very centre of the lip, to make the metallic shade stand out more, and truly make it a statement lip!
What I used is Dior’s Flash Luminizer Radiance Booster in shade 005 which is a GORGEOUS champagne pearly shade.
The end result – an uber-glam look which catches the light and making your lips the centre of your lovely makeup look!
A final pro tip I learnt is to deepen the shade of the blush to have some colour on your face as well while wearing a dark lip – this will truly tie the look together! I am wearing Dior’s Rosy Glow Healthy Glow Awakening Blush!
I hope these tips helped you in trying out metallic or dark lip colours which are all the rage right now! You never know until you try, which is what I did. I could not have imagined to love this look as much as I did, but I got so many compliments for this unique – truly my own lip shade!
Highly recommend to check out Dior’s metallic lip colours – they are all so gorgeous, I am obsessed with the metallic trend! The lipstick itself was long wearing, and maintained the metallic sheen for the 4-5 hours I wore it. Click here to see all the gorgeous liquid lip shades available at Dior!
