Fragrance has such a beautiful sensory power to transport you to familiar time and place, and just for those few moment make you relive some precious moments.
The world knows and remembers Jason Wu as the designer who well-deservedly was pushed to the limelight when Michelle Obama wore stunning dresses from his collection during Barack Obama’s inauguration – both times!
Jason Wu was born in Taipei, immigrated to Canada at a young age, and now works out of New York city. I had the privilege to attend Jason Wu’s fragrance launch, and I am so excited to share my thoughts on his fragrance!
The star of Jason Wu’s fragrance for Women is the floral note of jasmine, which reminded him of his childhood days in Taiwan where he would pluck these flowers from his neighbour’s garden! For him, the scent of jasmine transported him to that time and brought back powerful memories. That right there is the magical power of fragrance, which evokes such strong memories. Balancing the exotic note of jasmine in his fragrance are notes of peonies, pink pepper, fig, and sensual woods. And it all beautifully comes together in the loveliest pink-blush tone captured in an architecturally refined bottle topped off with a simplistic gold cap.
Bottle and Design
The bottle is made of a heavy glass, and Jason Wu wanted to ensure it has clean lines and a perfect body. The simple yet feminine bottle shape topped with a flawless gold cap, which has actually been co-designed by architect Andre Mellone, also is a part of the ‘fragrance clutch box’ handbag from Jason Wu’s Fall 2017 collection. Owning this fragrance truly means owning a piece of well-crafted luxury designer item.
Final Thoughts and Review
I am truly in love with this fragrance, whose Indian jasmine note reminds me of dancing Bharat Natyam while being adorned with temple jewellery and lots of flowers in my hair – so pure and beautiful! It is so beautiful how this fragrance can have that effect! It is truly a pleasure to own this bottle which I will always treasure. The fragrance is light and enigmatic, and can be worn well into Fall and Winter to remind yourself of a floral spring enveloped in deep woodsy notes. Feminine, elegant, oriental, sensual, and woodsy are the words I would use to sum up this fragrance.
Jason Wu has put his heart and soul into this fragrance, and the resulting product is a truly feminine fragrance in a classic and elegant bottle. I am also very impressed with how he puts so much zeal into his work and his creative process. It was amazing to get to meet him and be inspired by his style of work.
